Ian Layton - Art & Design
Ian Layton was born in Mexborough in 1953, and expressed an interest in painting from an early age.
After leaving school necessity dictated and he went into engineering where he served an apprenticeship as a precision engineer. For some years Ian worked in the design office.
Growing success as an Artist allowed him to fulfil his desire to paint on his own terms. Painting daily, dividing time between his studio and locations throughout the UK and abroad.
His paintings are a celebration of light and atmosphere, he particularly enjoys capturing the transient aspects of weather and the “coutre jour” effect of painting directly into the light.
He has displayed his work at many prestigious exhibitions, including: The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal Institute of Oil Painters, The Royal Society of British Artists, The Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Discerning Eye, and The New English Art Club at the Mall Galleries London.
In 2004 he was awarded “The Discerning Eye” Chairman’s Purchase Prize.
Ian’s work is held in both public and private collections.
